My goal is to raise money to help families that were affected by Hurricane Sandy purchase or repair their Boilers so they can have heat and hot water for the holidays. It may seem like a very basic thing but without a boiler families will not be able to heat their homes or heat up water for bathing/cleaning. Imagine living in a house without heat for several weeks. That is what many families in The Rockaways have been suffering through. With winter starting to set in and the temperature quickly dropping the situation is only going to get worse.
I grew up swimming and biking along the Rockaway shores and even though it is a beautiful place in the summer, the winters are extremely cold!
As a former resident and graduate of Far Rockaway HS I feel that is it my duty to help out and give back to the community.
That is why I am dedicating my upcoming Ironman Triathlon to the families and victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Ironman Cozumel will take place on Sunday November 25th during the Thanksgiving holiday.
While most people are spending their time with family and friends I will be out conquering a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and full marathon.
During this holiday I want you to think about all things that you are thankful for. Then think about all the people who have lost all their possessions.
The total distance that I will cover is 140.6 miles.
The suggested donation is $140.60 which is equivalent to a dollar per mile.
I am proud to announce that my employer New York Health & Racquet Club will match donations up to $25,000.
If you make a donation at this level or above you can consider yourself an 'Ironman' for day.
I hope that you can find it in your heart to make a donation of any size towards this cause.
Your friendly neighborhood Ironman,
'One step at a time, we can improve someone's life.'
